Professional Experience

1973 - 1988

Executive Officer with H M Customs & Excise, London and then in Glasgow Excise. Moved to VAT in 1978 and worked in all aspects of the tax. Moved to Edinburgh in 1983 and was promoted to Higher Executive Officer with responsibility for the VAT Enquiries Unit with a staff complement of 15. Promoted to Senior Executive Officer in 1987.

1988 - 1993

Moved from Customs to the former firm of Deloitte Haskins & Sells CA's at the invitation of Victor Durkacz, with whom he worked until Victor left to form his own firm. Became Senior Manager in charge of the VAT and Excise Group of Coopers & Lybrand CA's in Edinburgh with three staff, including a secretary.

1993 - 1997

Moved from Coopers & Lybrand to become Senior Partner in The Durkacz Partnership, a partnership formed with Mary Durkacz following the sudden death of her husband, Victor, who was sole proprietor of Durkacz & Co.
